So before you start reading this, just keep in mind that behind every awards show is a group of old white people. And along with that, if a musician takes any of these awards that seriously, then they're probably a douche bag to begin with (i.e. Kanye West). Thankfully, I felt like this year the Grammys did a pretty decent job at honoring the people who put a lot of time and work into their craft and care more about their fans and careers than they do money or awards.
Beyonce swept the Grammys this year, nabbing six of her eight nominations- THE MOST GRAMMYS EVER WON BY A FEMALE IN ONE NIGHT. I feel like it's well deserved and she's earned it. After working for over a decade, she released I AM...SASHA FIERCE, which I feel will be her defining masterpiece. Don't get me wrong, she'll have a long and successful career, however, people will remember this record as the one that established her as a living legend. And her performance this year is simply another example of her brilliance.
BEYONCE - IF I WERE A BOY/YOU OUGHTA KNOW (LIVE AT THE 2010 GRAMMYS)
BEYONCE - WAITING
BEYONCE - SHOULD HAVE (FOREVER TO BLEED)
BEYONCE - STOP SIGN
Say what you will, but I still give Taylor Swift a lot of credit. I know the whole young-country-girl-with-a-guitar-who-writes-her-own-songs schtick is getting kind of old, but I can't help but find her charming. All I know is that I haven't had a country record on repeat like this since Shania Twain's Come On Over. And this collaboration with Stevie Nicks, though vocally weak if you ask me, was cute and appropriate and true to their individual artistry. Whoever came up with that pairing needs a raise.
TAYLOR SWIFT - FOREVER AND ALWAYS
TAYLOR SWIFT - YOU'RE NOT SORRY (CSI REMIX)
TAYLOR SWIFT VS. USHER - CLUB LOVE
As expected, GaGa delivered an epic performance. She opened with "Poker Face" in a spectacle similar to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, except with people instead of chocolate. She went from there to her stunning duet with Elton John, which featured "Speechless" before transitioning to "Your Song" and then to a brief bit of piano pounding and adlibbing before finishing up. And though she was robbed of Album of the Year and only walked away with two measly awards, I feel hopeful. In my opinion, The Fame is only her beginning. I think The Fame Monster is much better and if it's any indication of her progression as an artist, then I can't wait till the 2011 Grammys.
LADY GAGA WITH ELTON JOHN - POKER FACE/SPEECHLESS/YOUR SONG (LIVE AT THE 2010 GRAMMYS)
LADY GAGA - RETRO PHYSICAL
LADY GAGA - FOOLED ME AGAIN (HONEST EYES)
I wasn't going to mention Pink, but I've got to give it to her. Girl knows how to put on a show. Never did I think that the chick who had me jamming to "Just Like A Pill" and "Don't Let Me Get Me" in middle school would come to have a lengthy and successful career and be considered a respectful artist and performer. Her stunts at the Grammys did more than just validate her though, they made it clear that NO ONE ever has an excuse to lip-synch again.
PINK- GLITTER IN THE AIR (LIVE AT THE 2010 GRAMMYS)
PINK FEAT. PEACHES - OH MY GOD

This circus crap just proves music as we know it is officially dead. Dust off your records and keep the radio and TV off.
the grammys are just absolute bullshit.
Beyonce's performance was pathetic.
Pink owned her in every way possible.
I agree, Gaga got robbed.
But, gotta say--love Beyonce, hated that performance. All I got out of it was that she has hair, and she doesn't know the words to Outta Know. Way too many vocal rips. She looked way too determined to prove she has talent. Look, babe, we know you're great--stop telling us.
Pink, on the other hand, stole the show. Absolutely stole it and gave me chills.
Pink's performance blew me away and was totally awesome!
records suck
Now hold on, give credit where credit is due. Its not easy to spin in the air and sing at the same time.
