QUITZOW: JUICE WATER

Multi-instrumentalist songwriter Erica Quitzow will release her latest record, Juice Water June 1st on Young Love Records. A follow up to 2008’s critically lauded Art College, Juice Water finds Quitzow creating bubbly, effervescent pop that’s as spunky as it is carefully constructed. A similar artist I could compare her to is Little Boots and Peaches, but a little more DIY feel. Here's "The Cut", a melodic synth track that's completely dominating my iTunes right now. It's making anticipate summer just that much more.

And this spring, she will take her new record on the road, touring ten European countries followed by an extensive U.S. tour come summer.

Ah, CULT is tonight and I'm pretty excited about it. Not so excited about my sleeping schedule right now; I've been sleeping for about 4 hours a day around 7pm-ish, which doesn't feel right at all. I woke up at midnight with a horrible headache and watched White Chicks on VHS to calm me down. It really made me questions a lot of things in today's society like modern day racism and sexism and the deconstruction of our theory of what we believe subhuman is. Just kidding, I don't care -- It was a pretty cool movie. ...I go to film school, what?

I feel like going to an art school I should have better taste in things, sometimes. I mean, at least I know what is considered a bad movie. I just... like them... a lot. Okay I watched White Chicks more than once in this past week and found out that White Chicks 2 is in production right now. Does that make me any more of a white person? What the fuck am I talking about? I'm busting myself out wayy too much. I don't have anything to say and if I kept going I'd probably end up talking about Lady Gaga so I'll stop, here is a load of music to make up for it.

WE ARE THE WORLD?

This month, the hot mess of artists that came together to help Haiti debuted their video for the hilariously horrendous remake of "We Are The World." That being said, I truly did love it. I laughed relentlessly through all eight minutes. There were a litany of parts that are just unintentionally hysterical. Here's just a few.

1. Janet and Michael green screened side by side. I mean really? It's so ridiculous, so funny.

2. T-Pain's autotuned verse? I did not see that one coming at all. Who's idea was that?

3. Wycelf's hollering all over the last half of it. Too much dude.

The only person who brings any sort of redeeming quality to this song is Jennifer Hudson, whose soaring vocals effortlessly dominate everyone else's. Also, check out who got solo's in the song and who was in the chorus. Who decided on that? They passed up giving numerous respected vocalists solos and instead blindly handed them out to people like Miley and Lil' Wayne. If they were trying to be relevant, they clearly failed. Thank god artists like Beyonce, GaGa, Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj skipped out on this madness. If they were really trying to get Haiti some attention, they should've put people like Snooki or Ke$ha or Noah Cyrus on this. Or even Lindsay Lohan. Or all the Lohans. Go big or go home right?

Okay, so I've been a little hesitant to post anything new on the blog since I've read about the whole 'Google deleting music blogs without warning'. I don't really know what it's all about, but I don't really care anymore. I want you guys to check out Fire For Effect. It caught my eye on Facebook recently due to having mutual friends. Downloaded the tracks "The Beach" and "Cyberflora" and have been really putting them in heavy rotation -- Really into any 'chill' dance right now. Fire For Effect is actually Albert J. from the electro queer punk band, SSION. From Kansas City and now living in LA and is the residential DJ at Botnet. These two tracks are different than anything SSION has done. Fire Fore Effect is hard to categorize, but I can say that it's a bit dark wave to it mixed with a lot of new and unusual beats. Feel it.
